Best Pour Over Coffee Makers 2024
One of the quickest and most simple methods to make a cup or more of coffee is to use a Pour Over coffee maker. They come in several materials including glass, ceramic, stainless steel and plastic. The general sizes are from 8-ounces to 32-ounces.
The process to make Pour Over coffee works like this: Put your ground coffee (medium-fine) in a paper filter and insert it into the filter holder cup, which sits atop the receiving carafe. (There are also reusable steel filters in place of paper). The basic ratio of coffee grounds to water is two tablespoons of coffee to one cup of water. Boil the water. Pour the proper amount of boiled water over the grounds and watch it drip into the carafe. Let steep a few minutes and pour your Cup O' Joe. That's really all there is to it.
TYPES OF POUR OVER UNITS
As with everything “coffee,” there are always variations on how the process can be executed, and there are numerous versions of Pour Over carafes. But basically, they all do the same thing. It just depends on how fastidious you want to get with your process.
For example, it is more difficult to pour water evenly over the coffee grains with a standard kettle due to its wide mouth or “spout.” Some pour-over units have a a thinner or “goose-neck” spout. This type of top spout allows better control over the water pouring, which makes a difference as to how your coffee turns out. Another piece of equipment you can buy for your Pour Over unit is called a “dripper.” When you are ready to pour the finished coffee into your cup, place the dripper over the cup and the coffee drips as it would from an electric drip-brewing machine.
One last note – if you want your coffee to stay hot longer, you can purchase a stopper that locks in the heat and keeps your coffee warm.
